Buy Expired Domains That Are Not Registered Anymore

Why buy an expired domain?

If you are new to the term 'expired domain' and know little about the topic we will fill you in on why they are so powerful. An expired domain is a domain that may have been previously owned and was used to run a website. Why is this important? An expired domain can be purchased and restored back to what it was at a point in the past. If the domain had any links from other websites pointing to it, these will again become active. A quality expired domain can give you instant results in web traffic. There lies a good chance that when the site becomes registered again, it will reclaim the search engine rankings it previously held.

Another way that previously owned expired domains can give you instant results is if other sites were linking back to it, and the sites that were linking back to it were quality made sites. These back-links that already exist are the reason that the sites has power that can then be transferred to help give your site more power online. It's a pretty sweet tactic if you can find an old domain related to your niche that already has traffic flow through it. Most of the time however, expired domains are useful in another way. Expired domains can be used to post an article on that points to your main 'money site'. In doing so you will be helping to increase the metrics of your own site, which in turn can give you a better chance at ranking higher in search engines for all your sites pages and posts.

Utilizing expired domains is one of the best online marketing strategies you can use. Another one of the best online marketing strategies is to have articles made about your niche, and having these articles placed on high metric sites pointing back to your domain. To do this you need to have an article well written that consists of about 800-3000 words, contains images and keyword backlinks. There are many great sites that allow you to submit articles for free, it does however take a while to become a publisher to many of these sites. Even then many contributors articles never actually see the light of day. Another issue that can happen is that your article will get published but with the backlinks removed, which does absolutely nothing for you. A way to drastically decrease the amount of time and risk involved in getting high authority ranking sites to link to your site is by getting a person who is already a verified contributor to write and submit an article for you. If this is a strategy you would like to try please let us know. We work with many contributors to some of the world's top websites.

It's a bit of a tricky process to find expired domains. The biggest factor is the time it takes from beginning to end. The first step in finding expired domains is to know what niche you are looking for. If you don't care about the niche the expired domain falls in then you are one of the lucky few, or perhaps you are an SEO company that has many clients and all domains will help further your clients along. But if you are like most people and you have a specific niche in mind, this is where you start. You first need to generate a list of relevant high ranking sites in your industry, preferably ones that do not get crawled by the masses, and that have aged for at least 3 or 4 years (the older the better). It helps to find sites that have many outgoing links. This list of sites that you find is what you will be 'crawling'. Crawling sites is how you can get a big list of domains that have expired. This is done by a program that analyzes all the links on a given page, and notes down links where the 'host is not found'. Depending on the 'depth' at which you set the crawler, will determine how many sites you will analyze. By setting a crawler at a depth of 3, means that you will analyze all the links on the first sites page, then it will follow all the working links and analyze all the links on the next pages, and follow all of those working links again to the 3rd connecting web pages and see if any of those are broken as well. Here are a few of the best tools if you're looking to do this yourself:

  • Domain Ronin
  • Xenu
  • Domain Hunter Gatherer
  • Scrape Box

After you have compiled a big list of niche relevant expired domains, the fun begins! About 99-100% of the expired domains that you have just compiled are going to be garbage. It is a very time-consuming process and there is no way around it, someone has to analyze and find the reason why each expired domain is no good. If you can't find a reason a domain is no good, then it might just be worth purchasing. The best tools to do this are Majestic SEO, MOZ, and Internet Archive. MOZ is the best site to look at a sites DA and PA (Domain Authority and Page Authority). Majestic is the best site to see what the TF and CF are and to also check out the incoming links and anchor texts pointing to the expired domain. If after looking at both the Majestic and MOZ metrics and things seem to be good, meaning they have scores of >15 for TF CF PA DA, real site backlinks, and a variety of anchor texts. It is time to use Internet Archive to see what the site used to look like and to see if it has been altered, spammed, or used for a PBN in the past. To do this ou must analyze as many screenshots of the site from its past to determine if it is clean and of any use. If it is, then you may have just found yourself a quality expired domain. Keeping your fingers crossed, your next step is to head over to a domain registrar such as GoDaddy or NameCheap and hope that it is still available (your thinking but why would it not be available, am I not checking an expired and available domain list...? Yes you are, but so are many other people, and its first come first serve).
